The wait is finally over. Saturday Night Live returns tonight with a brand new episode. So who should SNL fans expect to see as host?
Last time out, SNL put the show in the hands of Lizzo. The singer served as both the host and the musical guest. Along the way, she became the latest in a long list of first-time hosts for season 47.
Tonight, that trend changes as SNL welcomes back a familiar face. Benedict Cumberbatch will host tonight for the second time. He’ll be joined by musical guest Arcade Fire.
Cumberbatch, star of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, last hosted during season 42. He teamed up with musical guest Solange back on November 5, 2016.
What to watch for with Benedict Cumberbatch on Saturday Night Live
Benedict Cumberbatch will be one of the few SNL hosts this season to arrive with some idea of what to expect. While it has been six years, Cumberbatch should be familiar with the routine and what goes into putting on the show. That, combined with his stage-acting experience, should mean he won’t shy away from the spotlight.
Cumberbatch’s last hosting gig also proved that he’s up for just about anything. Whether it’s making fun of himself, playing silly characters, or looking ridiculous, the actor appeared game. That’s the kind of attitude he’ll need as Saturday Night Live enters the home stretch of season 47.
The final few episodes of the season are also when SNL decides to pull out the stops as far as cameos. Cumberbatch is currently promoting Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The film had its premiere in New York City on May 5. It’s conceivable that his costar Elizabeth Olsen stuck around and could join him on Saturday Night Live tonight.
Saturday Night Live airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. It also streams live on Peacock.
