Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, April 30?
By Matt Moore
Did you forget about Saturday Night Live? The show has been off the air since April 16, so some fans can be forgiven. But what should SNL audiences expect to see tonight?
Last time out, Saturday Night Live gave the keys to Lizzo as both host and musical guest. She brought a lot of energy into Studio 8H, so maybe the cast and crew needed time to recover.
Regardless of the reason, the hiatus isn’t over yet. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Instead, NBC will reair the January 15 episode hosted by Ariana DeBose with musical guest Bleachers. The episode is significant in that it is director Liz Patrick’s first episode as sole director, taking over for the legendary Don Roy King.
SNL fans can also check out a vintage episode at 10:00 p.m. ET. Tune in to see a rebroadcast of the April 7, 2012 episode hosted by Modern Family star Sofia Vergara with musical guest One Direction.
When does Saturday Night Live return?
If Saturday Night Live fans can make it through this week, there is good news waiting on the other side. We won’t have to wait long for SNL to return with a new episode.
The sketch comedy show is scheduled to return on May 7. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Benedict Cumberbatch will host for the second time. He’ll be joined by musical guest Arcade Fire.
The May 7 episode will mark the 19th episode of season 47. Saturday Night Live typically airs 21 episodes in a season, so we’ll likely be down to the final three by the time Cumberbatch takes the stage.
We’ve yet to hear who the final hosts will be after the Doctor Strange actor. Stay tuned for more updates!
