Alleged SNL writer stirs up fury online after “violent” tweet
An alleged SNL writer is facing major backlash online after a tweet was posted threatening to “slap” those without masks in public.
The tweet in question read: “I’m sorry, but if I see you walking on the sidewalk without a mask, I WILL b*itchslap you. The more of us who stay home, the faster this will all be over. Oh, and if you ARE selfishly going out to bars and restaurants? For Chrissake have the decency to tip your servers.”
Shortly after the tweet was posted, many took issue with the extreme nature of the post. One user commented: “A writer for SNL wants everyone to know he will be physically assaulting anyone who is outside without a mask. This violent man sincerely thinks he’s the good guy.”
Others have claimed that the tweet could have been an attempt at parody. One responded, saying, “Upon further review, this likely is an attempt at parody, or trolling.”
It is not confirmed that the user of the Twitter account is in any way associated with SNL, despite the account’s bio claiming to be a writer for the NBC show.
In recent months, SNL has used several skits to mention modern mask wearing. One, saw a dinner gathering in which actors depicted popular disagreements over the way in which the pandemic should be handled.
Benedict Cumberbatch announced to host SNL in May
May 7th will see Benedict Cumberbatch hosting Saturday Night Live. This is not the first time that the popular actor has made appearances before, hosting the show back in 2017.
Rock band, Arcade Fire will also feature as musical guests. If we’re honest, we can’t wait.
