Jeopardy! kicked off March with a brand new episode on Tuesday night. Returning champion Christine Whelchel returned to put her four-game winning streak on the line.

Whelchel entered Tuesday’s game with cash winnings totaling $73, 601. Not bad for the piano teacher and church organist from Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Tonight, she took on two more challengers. Her competition included Margaret Shelton, a homemaker from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Stefan Stenroos, a technical trainer from Aliso Viejo, California.

Things got off to a much different start for Christine Whelchel than when we last saw her. The “Jeopardy!” round finished with Margaret Shelton in the lead at $4,800. Whelchel was in second with $3,400 and Stefan Stenroos in third with $3,000.

The order stayed the same through “Double Jeopardy!.” However, Whelchel and Shelton ran away from Stenroos. After two rounds, Shelton had $13,600, Whelchel had $10,600, and Stenroos had $1,800.

In “Final Jeopardy!,” all three contestants answered correctly. Margaret Shelton made enough of a wager to maintain her lead and become the new Jeopardy! champion.
