Is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert new tonight, August 23?
By Matt Moore
We’ve entered the final stretch of summer, meaning time is running out for any last vacation or time off before the fall. What does that mean for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight?
Stephen Colbert and company brought brand new episodes to CBS over the past two weeks. This followed an extended break that had fans wondering when The Late Show would be back to delivering late-night TV’s most in-demand monologues.
Unfortunately, that return was short-lived. There will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight.
Instead, CBS will reair the Aug. 11 episode. Fans have another chance to catch Colbert’s interviews with Alan Alda and Gabriel Iglesias.
The Late Show’s night off works out well for Stephen Colbert
The timing actually works in Colbert’s favor. The late-night host caught some heat after video surfaced of the comedian dancing with Senator Chuck Schumer backstage at New York City’s “We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert.”
The concert went on as scheduled despite weather warnings, the surge brought on by the delta variant, and other factors that made a concert seem ill-advised. The show did end early due to weather concerns, but not before Colbert and Schumer were caught on camera dancing.
Some critics called out the pair as tone-deaf given everything going on in the U.S. and abroad. Conservatives like Sen. Ted Cruz were especially quick to go on the offensive. On the other hand, some saw it as harmless fun during an attempt to bring normalcy back to NYC.
We’ll have to wait and see if Stephen Colbert responds to the criticism. In fairness, it’s the kind of video he’d have no problem mocking if it was someone else. In any case, fans won’t hear from the Late Show host on Monday night.
