Jimmy Kimmel Live announces three new guest hosts for this week
By Matt Moore
Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s summer of guest hosts continues this week. Three more celebrities take their turn running the late-night show as regular host Jimmy Kimmel remains on vacation.
Starting on Monday night, musician Maren Morris, actress Julie Bowen, and actor Sean Hayes step up to guest-hosting duties.
Morris takes her turn first. The Grammy-winning singer has released three singles in 2021, including “Chasing After You.” Now, she’ll be in the spotlight as the next guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Her selection is reminiscent of Dua Lipa taking over the show last year. Like Maren, Lipa didn’t come to Kimmel with much performing experience outside of music. But the pop star proved she belonged, and fans should expect Maren to do the same.
On Tuesday night, Bowen gets the keys. The Modern Family alum has been a frequent guest, so she should have familiarity with the crew and things behind the scenes at the late-night show.
The week wraps up as Hayes guest hosts on both Wednesday and Thursday. Besides his acting experience, he can rely on his recent turn as a co-host of the “SmartLess” podcast.
Who’s on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week?
Guest hosting a late-night TV show is a daunting task. Things will be a little easier on the hosts if they can build some quick chemistry with the guests.
On Monday, Aug. 16, Marren Morris will be joined by country music icon Willie Nelson. That should definitely help the guest host get comfortable. Then, comedian Megan Stalter joins the show. Finally, things wrap up with musical guest Gabriels.
On Tuesday, Aug. 17, Bowen starts by interviewing actress Minnie Driver. The two actresses began their careers around the same time, so there should be some shared experiences they may cover in the conversation. Then, actor Jacob Elordi stops by Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He’ll be on to promote his film The Kissing Booth 3. Ashe serves as the musical guest.
Tune in on Wednesday, Aug. 18 to see Sean Hayes interview actress Awkwafina. Season 2 of her Comedy Central series Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens debuts the same night. She can also be seen in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings beginning Sept. 3. Hall and Oates check in as the musical guest.
Hayes returns on Thursday, Aug. 19 to close out the week. He’ll be joined first by actress Tracee Ellis Ross. She recently picked up another Emmy nomination for her role on Black-ish. Then, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu joins the show. Yola closes out the week as the musical guest.
