Late night TV: 5 guests to watch this week – June 7, 2021
By Matt Moore
Late night TV is back this week after many shows took a week-long break. Fans won’t be disappointed by the guest list as late night gets back on track.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! and A Little Late with Lilly Singh were the only shows airing new episodes last week. Other fan-favorites such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon were off following the Memorial Day holiday.
But that changes this week with new episodes scheduled across the board. Conan, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and The Late Late Show with James Corden are among those bringing brand-new shows to fans this week.
And as if that wasn’t good enough, just about every show has an impressive guest lineup night after night. Here are Last Night On’s picks for the five guests fans won’t want to miss this week.
Late night TV guests to watch: Robert de Niro
Start your week off in late night TV with a Hollywood legend. Actor Robert De Niro comes to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, June 7.
De Niro has three major projects coming up soon. He’ll be in David O. Russell’s new film Canterbury Glass which stars Christian Bale, John David Washington, Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Taylor Swift among others. Then, he reunites with Martin Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon alongside Jesse Plemons and Leonardo DiCaprio.
But De Niro will be on The Tonight Show to promote a different project. The Tribeca Film Festival returns on June 9. De Niro co-founded the festival in 2001. Expect to get a preview for the festival as well as the actor’s commentary on bringing it back to New York City during the pandemic.
Late night TV guests to watch: Tom Hiddleston
Get ready for the next big Marvel TV series on Tuesday, June 8. Tom Hiddleston will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Hiddleston returns in Loki, the new Disney+ series, as his popular Marvel Cinematic Universe character. Loki was last seen in Avengers: Endgame during the time heist sequence, thus giving his character new life after seemingly dying at the hands of Thanos.
Given the success of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there are high expectations for Loki. Hiddleston is an MCU veteran by this point, so he should know how to hype the show while also not shying away from fans’ expectations. Loki begins streaming on June 9.
Late night TV guests to watch: Lisa Kudrow
It’s a Friends reunion reunion on Wednesday, June 9. Lisa Kudrow visits The Late Late Show with James Corden.
James Corden hosted the Friends special on HBO Max that featured Kudrow alongside castmates Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matthew Leblanc, and David Schwimmer. The special was popular among hardcore Friends fans and reignited feelings of nostalgia by seeing the cast together again. Expect Corden and Kudrow to reflect on the filming experience and fan reaction.
Kudrow also has new projects to promote. She’s back as the voice of Janice Templeton for The Boss Baby: Family Business. It hits theaters on July 2 and streams on Peacock the same day. Kudrow also lends her voice to HouseBroken, the animated comedy that debuted on Fox on May 31.
Late night TV guests to watch: Sarah Silverman
Conan only has a handful of episodes left before it ends its run on TBS. Don’t miss Sarah Silverman as she checks in on Wednesday, June 9.
Conan O’Brien has excellent guests scheduled all week to close out Conan. Sarah Silverman has long been one of the show’s best visitors, so it is fitting that she returns to help say goodbye.
Silverman currently hosts “The Sarah Silverman Podcast.” She’ll also star in Marry Me alongside Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson. The romantic comedy is set to hit theaters on February 11, 2022.
Late night TV guests to watch: Bill Clinton
Anytime a former president is on the late night TV lineup, it makes the list. Watch President Bill Clinton on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, June 10.
Jimmy Kimmel recently interviewed former President George W. Bush and has interviewed President Barack Obama in the past. The comedian interviewed Clinton back in 2014.
Clinton will be on to promote his new novel The President’s Daughter, co-written with James Patterson. Kimmel should ask how much of the book is based on Clinton’s own experiences and how much is exaggerated for readers.
Kimmel may also ask how Clinton navigated the pandemic, his thoughts on President Joe Biden’s performance, and more.
