Late night TV: Five guests to watch this week – March 15, 2021
By Matt Moore
Late night TV is back with another week of new shows! Across the board, shows are packed with some of the biggest names in movies, music, television, and politics.
After a winter that included a few hiatuses and time off, it seems as if late night is in a groove right now. Just about every show has delivered new episodes over the past couple of weeks and that trend will continue starting tonight.
Last week, we highlighted how comedians such as Seth Rogen and Eddie Murphy were the main attractions. But this week has something for everyone as fan-favorite celebrities come out to promote their latest projects.
With that in mind, here are Last Night On’s picks for the five late night TV guests that fans should be most excited to see this week. Be sure to let us know who you’ll be tuning in to see in the comment section below.
Late night TV guests to watch: Ringo Starr
Start your week of late night TV with a music legend. Ringo Starr is on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday, March 15.
It would be awesome if Starr was sitting down with Stephen Colbert in person at the Ed Sullivan Theater. It’s where the Beatles had their U.S. television debut back in Feb. 1964.
The 80-year-old musician presented at the Grammys on Sunday night. Next, he’ll be the subject of a virtual exhibit from the Grammy Museum. Expect Starr to give Colbert and his audience a preview on Monday night.
Late night TV guests to watch: Michelle Obama
One of the most popular figures in the world comes to late night on Tuesday. Catch former First Lady Michelle Obama on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 16.
Since departing the White House, Obama has remained very busy. She published her memoir Becoming, launched “The Michelle Obama Podcast,” and more.
Now she’s out promoting her new Netflix show Waffles + Mochi, a children’s show spotlighting different foods and cultures from around the world.
Jimmy Kimmel has a good relationship with the Obama family so his interview with Michelle Obama should be an entertaining conversation no matter what topics they decide to cover. Obama will also be on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, March 18.
Late night TV guests to watch: Anthony Mackie
Stick with Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, March 17. You’ll see Anthony Mackie connect with Jimmy Kimmel.
Mackie will be promoting the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Solider. The series has some pretty big shoes to fill coming on the heels of the wildly successful WandaVision.
Kimmel is a big Marvel fan so he’s the perfect late night host to interview Mackie about the series, the future of Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and much more. Add in the fact that Mackie is as charismatic and hilarious as any actor in the MCU and you have a can’t-miss interview.
Late night TV guests to watch: Dr. Anthony Fauci
Dr. Anthony Fauci’s late night TV tour continues this week. See him on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday, March 17.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Dr. Fauci didn’t appear on late night TV in 2020. The previous administration chose to keep the infectious disease expert out of the public eye after contracting President Donald Trump too many times.
But things are clearly different now. Dr. Fauci appeared on a special episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last week and now he’s set to speak with Seth Meyers. Expect a reflection on the past year as well as a conversation about the future. And being late night’s resident Saturday Night Live historian, Meyers may ask Dr. Fauci how he feels about Kate McKinnon’s impression of him this season.
Late night TV guests to watch: Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber returns to his favorite late night TV show this week. The pop star is on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday, March 18.
Bieber and James Corden have had some memorable moments together. “Carpool Karaoke” and “Spill Your Guts” stand out as examples of how Corden has helped the singer show more of himself to fans.
The pandemic makes it difficult to add another moment like those to the list but the appearance should be interesting nevertheless. Bieber will be on to promote his new album Justice, set to release on March 19.
