Jimmy Kimmel’s coronavirus anniversary episode preview
By Matt Moore
Jimmy Kimmel Live! will mark the one-year anniversary of the novel coronavirus pandemic with a special episode tonight on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel is calling it the “Coronaversary Show.”
Like the rest of the world, late night television has been forced to adjust to a new normal over the past year. Kimmel has had one of the more interesting sagas among hosts dealing with quarantine, lockdown, and other safety protocols.
Expect Kimmel to take a look back at that journey during tonight’s special episode. It should also give the comedian another reason to bash former President Donald Trump for his mishandling of the pandemic along with other bizarre moments.
Tonight’s “Coronaversary Show” will also have a special guest. All in all, it should be worth tuning in to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday.
Who’s on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight?
Tonight’s first guest is Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. If you’re wondering why the former presidential candidate makes for a fitting guest, there is a reason.
Buttigieg was the guest host on March 12, 2020. It was not long after he had dropped out of the race despite significant media attention and popularity among democrats.
The episode featured Buttigieg delivering a monologue to a nearly empty audience. Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s writers tried to help as best they could by cutting to clips of laughter and ovations to make the former South Bend, Indiana mayor comfortable.
Buttigieg did a nice job as host. He would go on to interview actors Patrick Stewart and Tony Hale as well as taking on Stewart in a round of Star Trek trivia.
The politician is in a much different place a year later. Expect him to discuss the past year that started with a guest spot on Jimmy Kimmel’s show and ended with him joining President Joe Biden’s cabinet.
Then, Kimmel will talk with Joel McHale. The actor/comedian was one of several celebrities who filled in for Kimmel as a guest host during the summer. McHale should also help put the past year in perspective and bring some much-needed levity to the situation.
Tonight’s musical guest will be Adam Duritz. The Counting Crows frontman will deliver a solo rendition of the song “A Long December.”
