Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, February 27?

Season 46 of Saturday Night Live started off with six consecutive episodes. A new show tonight would be five in a row since SNL in 2021. So what should fans expect to see?

That initial run of six episodes was partly due to Saturday Night Live‘s election coverage and it made the most sense based on quarantine protocols still in place due to the pandemic. The election is long gone but the pandemic is still impacting how SNL produces new episodes.

For audiences at home, that translates to good news. There will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.

The most effective way to operate in season 46 is to do chunks of episodes at a time, keeping cast members, writers, staff, and crew together for long stretches at a time. It sounds exhausting but co-head writer and “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost knows better than to complain.

Tonight will be a special episode as far as SNL goes. Nick Jonas will serve as both the host and the musical guest. Other performers to pull double duty recently include Chance the Rapper, Halsey, and Donald Glover.

Jonas was last on SNL in May 2019 along with the rest of the Jonas Brothers. The trio also appeared in the “Judge Court” sketch.

It would be a nice surprise if Saturday Night Live followed this episode up with another new one next week. But it seems more likely that another break is on the horizon before SNL is back in Studio 8H. It means there is all the more reason to catch tonight’s episode with Nick Jonas.
