If there was any question about how Jimmy Kimmel Live! would go on without Donald Trump to focus on, the Republican Party wasted no time in providing the late night show with new targets. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has skyrocketed to the top of Jimmy Kimmel’s list of most despised politicians.

Some have worried if late night TV shows would have the same level of success once former President Trump left office. There is no denying that shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live! thrived by delivering nightly takedowns of the president. But efforts by GOP members to fill the void left by Trump have also filled the void in material for Kimmel and others.

Earlier this month, it was Senator Ted Cruz that had become public enemy number one in the eyes of comedians like Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Seth Meyers. But with one sign and some tape, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is back on top.

Rep. Greene is a vocal opponent of the Equality Act that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. She took her opposition to a new level by hanging a sign outside her office saying there are only two genders. The stunt was in response to Rep. Marie Newman placing a transgender pride flag outside of her office.

Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue last night took exception to Rep. Greene’s move. It caused the comedian to label Marjorie Taylor Greene as the frontrunner for “Worst Person of 2021.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s history of spreading conspiracy theories would be enough for Kimmel to despise her. Her claims that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump and her role in the Capitol insurrection give Kimmel even more reason. But it’s clear from the host’s reaction that the sign stunt was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

It touches off a roast we haven’t seen from Kimmel since he went after Ted Cruz for his trip to Mexico. Kimmel calls Green the frontrunner for the worst person of 2021, refers to her as “QAnon Marge,” says we have a “Karen in Congress,” and laments that she’s “so awful.”

Jimmy Kimmel isn’t the only late night TV host to go after Marjorie Taylor Greene

Going forward, we can expect that anytime Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene makes headlines, Jimmy Kimmel will be eager to respond. He obviously doesn’t want her to get away with anything and seems dedicated to exposing her.

Kimmel won’t be alone in that endeavor. Fans have seen a number of other late night hosts go after Rep. Greene over the past couple of months.

Stephen Colbert called out Rep. Greene for her history of conspiracy theories and was especially outraged that Republicans stood by her side. Seth Meyers did something similar in “A Closer Look,” claiming that Rep. Greene has capitalized on the GOP’s fear of Donald Trump. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah did a deep dive on the Congresswoman and didn’t exactly paint a flattering picture.

And while the Georgia Republican likely welcomes these attacks, we’ll see how she handles the relentless mockery and jokes from Jimmy Kimmel and others.
