After a long layoff, Saturday Night Live is finally back. But who’s hosting tonight’s brand new episode?

Saturday Night Live season 46 has found a nice balance of first-time and returning hosts, including a few SNL alumni. Chris Rock, John Mulaney, and Kristen Wiig have all returned to Studio 8H while the show has also welcomed a handful of other performers to the SNL family. More on that later.

Another new name will be added to the list of SNL hosts. Actor and director John Krasinski will make his debut tonight. Fans may recall that the Quiet Place Part II director was originally scheduled to host last season before the episode was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we outlined in our episode preview, Krasinski shouldn’t have any trouble with the comedy, live performance, or pressure. Whether or not there is some rust among the SNL cast and crew is something to keep an eye on tonight.

Krasinski won’t be the only one making his Saturday Night Live debut tonight. He’ll be supported by musical guest Machine Gun Kelly.

How will John Krasinski compare to other first time Saturday Night Live hosts?

Like any season of Saturday Night Live, season 46 has been up and down through the first nine episodes. Four of those episodes have been hosted by a first-timer: Bill Burr, Issa Rae, Adele, and Timothée Chalamet.

John Krasinski will join Issa Rae as the SNL rookie that is best suited for sketch comedy. Adele had to prove she could act, nevermind in a comedy. And Chalamet had to convince audiences he could do more than just dramatic roles. Bill Burr surprised audiences with his performance in The Mandalorian but SNL fans saw that he was more than capable of holding his own in a scene.

Like Rae, Krasinski already has a background in comedic acting. While a live sketch show is much different than The Office, Krasinski will probably be drawing on some of that experience tonight. There’s a good chance that the actor will be in the discussion for one of the season’s best hosts.
