Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, January 9, 2021?

What should Saturday Night Live fans expect to see tonight on NBC?

After a week like the one we just went through, many people are looking for a distraction this weekend. Will a brand new Saturday Night Live be the key?

Late night television has done its best to respond to Wednesday’s events at the Capitol. Attempting to find a balance between humor and sincerity hasn’t been easy. Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert stood out among those leaning more toward commentary than comedy in the immediate aftermath.

But Saturday Night Live is a much different type of show than The Late Show or Late Night. It’s hard to imagine how SNL could address the past week and not have any sketch be a lose-lose situation.

So perhaps it is for the best that there will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight. The show remains on hiatus following its last show on Dec. 19.

Instead, NBC will reair an episode at midnight. The NFL playoff game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Football Team is likely to run over SNL’s usual 11:30 timeslot.
