Real Time with Bill Maher wrapped up season 18 just after the election and now the HBO late night show has its sights set on season 19. The good news is that fans won’t have to wait long.

HBO announced that the new season of Real Time with Bill Maher will begin on Friday, Jan. 15. It will remain in its 10:00 p.m. E.T. timeslot. The show will also be made available on HBO Max.

After doing Real Time for 18 years, you would think that Bill Maher has seen it all. But the novel coronavirus pandemic was an unprecedented challenge for the veteran comic.

As fans expected, Maher took it in stride and adjusted accordingly. After a brief hiatus, production shifted to Maher’s home in California before returning to the Real Time studio with a reduced crew and audience.

The country is by no means out of the woods yet when it comes to the pandemic. But the blueprint is in place for how Real Time can operate from its studio. Expect that to be the case when season 19 kicks off next month.

Mid-January is typically when Real Time with Bill Maher returns. But it’s safe to say that Bill Maher wanted to get the season premiere on air ahead of the Jan. 20 inauguration.

It will give the late night host a final chance to say goodbye to President Donald Trump. Frequent viewers of the show know that Maher has long predicted that President Trump would not leave the White House if he lost the election. The current president has yet to concede so he may have proved Maher right.

The season premiere will also give fans some insight into how Maher will cover President-elect Joe Biden. It’s very, very unlikely that the Biden administration will create as many scandals, controversies, and criminal investigations as its predecessor. But knowing Maher, he’ll still find something to critique in his signature voice.
