The stars behind Wonder Woman 1984 are taking over The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week
After months of uncertainty and delays in its release, Wonder Woman 1984 is finally making its way to audiences this Christmas. To celebrate Wonder Woman’s return to the big screen, the stars behind the latest DC Comics movie will take center stage on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week.
The original Wonder Woman was released in 2017. Gal Gadot took on the iconic role in the first solo movie for the Amazonian superhero after first appearing the year before in Batman v. Superman. Thanks to director Patty Jenkins and co-star Chris Pine, Gadot’s Wonder Woman was a critical, financial, and cultural success.
Wonder Woman was a bright spot in the much-maligned Justice League but now she is back for another solo adventure. Wonder Woman 1984, again directed by Jenkins and co-starring Pine, has had a number of released dates attached to it. Five different dates were announced as the film was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, the movie will be released in select theaters on Dec. 25. At the same time, it will be available on HBO Max as part of Warner Bros.’s bold strategy for releasing movies heading into 2021.
The multiple delays for WW84 has only increased the hype around the sequel. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon should help as the late night show will have four episodes this week featuring someone from the movie.
All of them make for great late night guests. And better yet, all of them have something else to discuss besides WW84. So if superhero movies aren’t your thing, you’ll still want to tune in this week.
Wonder Woman 1984 week on The Tonight Show: Monday
It’s only right that the week starts off with Wonder Woman herself. Gal Gadot will be the lead guest on Monday, Dec. 14.
With the original Wonder Woman, Gadot became one of the biggest movie stars in the world and one of the most recognizable people on the planet. The Israeli actress may reflect on that journey again as she chats with Jimmy Fallon.
Beyond another turn as Wonder Woman, Gadot has a lot going on. Her other upcoming projects include Red Notice, an action thriller co-starring Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, a major role in Death on the Nile, and plans to team up with Patty Jenkins for a Cleopatra biopic.
Gadot has been known to play a game or two when a guest of The Tonight Show. Fallon may want to play in to the “1984” part of WW84 and test Gadot’s knowledge of the 80s. The actress was born in 1985 so it may be a little tough.
Wonder Woman 1984 week on The Tonight Show: Tuesday
If Monday is for the hero, then Tuesday is for the villain. Kristen Wiig will be on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
Wiig plays Barbara Minerva, aka Cheetah, one of Wonder Woman’s most famous villains. Playing the antagonist in a big superhero blockbuster movie probably isn’t what most people would expect from Wiig. But according to reviews, the Saturday Night Live alum knocked it out of the park. Jimmy Fallon should ask Wiig why this was the role she wanted to take on and make that leap into the world of comic book movies.
Speaking of SNL, Wiig will be hosting this week’s episode. Expect Fallon to ask about that and what it’s like for Wiig to return to Studio 8H for the Christmas episode.
Wonder Woman 1984 week on The Tonight Show: Wednesday
Next up is director Patty Jenkins. You can catch her interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Jenkins should explain a bit more about the story behind Wonder Woman 1984 and how quickly after directing Wonder Woman that she knew what the sequel would be. Also, expect Jenkins to tell Jimmy Fallon about how fun it was shooting with Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and others.
The director may also talk about her comments supporting Warner Bros. and the studio’s decision to release WW84 on HBO Max the same day as in theaters. And of course, Fallon should definitely ask Jenkins about Rogue Squadron, the new Star Wars film she has been tapped to direct.
Wonder Woman 1984 week on The Tonight Show: Thursday
Wonder Woman 1984 week on The Tonight Show ends with another villain. Pedro Pascal joins the late night show on Thursday, Dec. 17.
Pascal plays Maxwell Lord, a well-known character in DC Comics for being a powerful and cunning businessman. It’s safe to say that Pascal’s version of the supervillan will be a driving force behind the film’s plot.
Fallon will probably ask Pascal what it was like to play the bad guy opposite Gal Gadot. The actor will likely also explain why the movie’s ’80s vibe is so important and so well-executed by Patty Jenkins and her team.
Outside of WW84, Pascal will surely discuss The Mandalorian. His Tonight Show appearance will come just a day before the season two finale goes live so there will be a lot to talk about when it comes to Mando’s past, present, and future.
