In A Closer Look, Seth Meyers examined why President Donald Trump is focused on anything but the COVID-19 pandemic

Last night on Late Night with Seth Meyers, “A Closer Look” discussed why President Donald Trump is publicly and privately ignoring the worsening pandemic. Seth Meyers once again condemned the president for trying to overturn the election instead of fulfilling his duties as the country’s leader.

Meyers and other late night hosts have frequently ridiculed President Trump for refusing to accept reality. “A Closer Look” pointed to two more examples of this as the president has been unwilling to acknowledge his defeat to President-elect Joe Biden or to come to grips with the pandemic.

Coronavirus cases continue to increase along with hospitalizations and deaths. Yet as Meyers indicated, reports say that President Trump no longer attends pandemic task force meetings. This is on top of hosting another rally in Georgia that violated recommendations on social distancing and masks.

Overturning the election isn’t the only thing distracting President Trump from the pandemic. “A Closer Look” also addressed reports that the outgoing president wants to steal the spotlight from President-elect Biden on inauguration day.

A Closer Look features a shocked but not surprised Seth Meyers

In no way did Seth Meyers expect President Donald Trump to become laser-focused on the pandemic after losing the election. Getting the pandemic under control prior to the election would have gone a long in helping the president get reelected. It certainly would have given him a better chance than his legal challenges led by Rudy Giuliani.

Still, Meyers does sound a bit shocked that the magnitude of the pandemic hasn’t set in with President Trump. “A Closer Look” argues once again that the president is only concerned with himself and his self-interests.

Another example comes in the form of reports President Trump plans to skip Joe Biden’s inauguration and turn his departure into a spectacle. Meyers predicts this is how Donald Trump will spend the next 20 years, holding rallies and complaining about stolen elections.

Meyers was again shocked but not surprised as “A Closer Look” referenced how many Republicans in Congress have also refused to acknowledge President Trump’s defeat. Meyers concludes by saying that kind of blind loyalty and enabling offers some insight on why it is so easy for President Trump to ignore his duties, even during a pandemic.
