Late night TV Thanksgiving list: Conan O’Brien’s fan appreciation

Conan O’Brien’s Twitter bio reads: “The voice of the people. Sorry, people.” It is a fitting representation of O’Brien’s self-deprecating humor. The reality is that the second line should be “You’re welcome.”

Nobody in late night embraced fans quite like Conan did in 2020. We already know that O’Brien has some of the most loyal fans in entertainment, earned during his Late Night with Conan O’Brien days and strengthened during the Tonight Show debacle.

So during the pandemic, when so many of us were trapped in the house and bored, Team Coco came up with different ways to get fans involved. First there ways “DIY Conan” that asked fans to recreate Conan moments for a special episode. Then there was the cardboard cutout audience initiative that gave fans the chance to “be” in the audience when Conan aired from the Largo theater. Add in reading fan comments on his hair, a Golden Ticket contest, and more, and O’Brien’s fan appreciation is undeniable.

Fans were definitely thankful for the opportunity to get involved. The cardboard cutout idea certainly proved that as a number of fans sent in their pictures. Now fans can be thankful that O’Brien is doing what he wants with his career as he prepares to end Conan and move to HBO Max.
