Watch Rudy Giuliani make his case to Stephen Colbert
By Matt Moore
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s version of Rudy Giuliani assured everyone he still has President Donald Trump’s trust
President Donald Trump’s legal effort to overturn the election never had a strong foundation. Things got even shakier when he put Rudy Giuliani in charge of the operation. Now it looks like the legal battle is on the verge of collapse but you won’t hear anything like that from Giuliani.
Giuliani was recently in Pennsylvania making claims of voter fraud and illegal activity during ballot counting. He even went so far as to put President Trump on speakerphone so that his boss could share his own thoughts on how the 2020 election was rigged.
This came after a series of disasters and gaffes for Giuliani that included possibly engaging in inappropriate behavior with Borat’s daughter, hosting a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping, and having his hair dye streak down his face during another appearance.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has hammed Giuliani over these missteps and more, going so far as to say that the lawyer is making President Trump look good by comparison. But in the interest of fairness, Stephen Colbert invited “Giuliani” onto the show last night to explain his side of the story.
That was the always-fantastic John Lithgow filling in once again as Rudy Giuliani on The Late Show. Fans of the show know that Lithgow has made a number of appearances in the past as the former New York City, typically when one of Giuliani’s conspiracies really starts to get weird.
Here, Lithgow has almost too much material to work with thanks to President Trump’s lawyer. From not understanding basic words to leaking hair dye, Lithgow and The Late Show did a nice job of getting as many jokes in as they could in the short sketch.
Is Stephen Colbert ready to say goodbye to Rudy Giuliani and other Team Trump guests?
There is a very good chance this was the last time we’ll see Rudy Giuliani on The Late Show. President Trump’s days in the White House are numbered and when time is up, so too will it be for members of his family and administration.
Stephen Colbert has expressed relief that he won’t have to talk about President Trump much longer. He’s already slowly started to remove the president from the show, going so far as to censor his name.
But when the Trump administration is gone, The Late Show will lose a number of its “exclusive” interviews. In the past, Colbert has interviewed his own versions of First Lady Melania Trump, John Bolton, and more.
Chances are that Colbert is willing to take the trade off of losing these characters if it means that President Trump and his allies are out of the White House. But at least we’ll always have the memories, right?
