Here are five guests coming to late night TV this week that fans won’t want to miss
November has been a crazy month for late night TV as the shows keep up with the election and subsequent fallout. Heading into the holiday season, now attention is turning back to the entertainment industry as this week’s guests prove.
Leading up to election night and in the weeks since, shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Late Night with Seth Meyers have featured politicians and news anchors as guests. Monologues continued to focus on President Donald Trump, his post-election meltdowns, and President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
As entertaining as it has been, it has also been exhausting. There are signs that late night TV is ready to move on from President Trump. And while the pandemic slowed down production of television shows and movies, there are still plenty of projects releasing this fall that need promotion. The stars behind many of them come to late night TV this week.
Here are Last Night On’s picks for five guests that you won’t want to miss this week. Be sure to let us know who you’ll be watching.
Late night TV guest to watch: Maria Bakalova
The biggest breakout movie star of 2020 leads this week’s late night TV guest picks. Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm‘s Maria Bakalova joins The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday, Nov. 16.
Bakalova went from relative obscurity to the center of the movie and political world when she teamed up with Sacha Baron Cohen for the sequel to 2006’s Borat. Playing Borat’s daughter Tutar, Bakalova more than held her own while improvising scenes with Cohen. Her infamous scene with Rudy Giuliani also brought more attention to the actress but she has handled the frenzy quite well.
It won’t be Bakalova’s first time on late night TV. She appeared in character on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in a hilarious bit. On The Late Late Show, it will be Bakalova, not Tutar, being interviewed. Expect Corden to ask Bakalova about how she was cast in Borat 2, her experience working alongside Cohen, and what’s next for the actress.
Late night TV guest to watch: Ricky Gervais
We now go from one of comedy’s newest stars to one of its most well-established. Catch Ricky Gervais on Conan on Monday, Nov. 16.
Gervais is always busy and always has something to promote. The second season of his Netflix show After Life released earlier this year.
It’s hard to think of anyone who brings the same kind of energy to late night TV as Gervais. The stand-up/actor/writer/director has excellent chemistry with every host but it is especially entertaining to see him with Conan O’Brien.
Late night TV guest to watch: Dan Levy
Coming off the end of his hit comedy Schitt’s Creek, Dan Levy has a new project to promote. You can see the actor on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
In its final season, Schitt’s Creek swept the Emmys and gave Levy the award Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. It cemented the show as one of the most successful sitcoms of all time while millions of fans wait to see what Levy will do next.
We’ll get an answer when he visits The Tonight Show. Levy should discuss his role in Happiest Season, a romantic comedy coming to Hulu on Nov. 25. His co-stars include Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Aubrey Plaza, and Alison Brie.
Late night TV guest to watch: Cedric the Entertainer
We can’t have a list of the top entertainers coming to late night this week and not include someone with “Entertainer” in his name. Watch Cedric the Entertainer on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Nov. 18.
The veteran comedian is out promoting the new season of his CBS sitcom The Neighborhood. The show’s third season debuted on Nov. 16.
Having one of the funniest people around on the show should be a nice change of pace for both Stephen Colbert and his fans. The Late Show is long overdue to take a break from the heavy content of the past two weeks. Cedric the Entertainer may be just what the doctor ordered.
Late night TV guest to watch: Sarah Silverman
Finish up your late night TV week with another one of the funniest people on the planet. Sarah Silverman checks in with Conan on Thursday, Nov. 19.
Chances are that if you’ve spent any amount of time on Twitter over the past few weeks, you’ve seen something from Silverman. The comedian and actress has been very active on social media encouraging people to vote and spreading information about the runoff elections in Georgia.
Those topics may come up on Conan. Silverman may even want to discuss her role in Yearly Departed, the comedy special coming to Amazon Prive Video on Dec. 30. She, along with other comedians including Tiffany Haddish and Natasha Leggero, will deliver a eulogy on 2020.
