Borat gives Jimmy Kimmel a COVID test, takes his pants

Borat returned to make sure that Jimmy Kimmel was following all the proper pandemic protocols

Borat is back and it feels like 2020 is the perfect time for the Kazakh journalist to return. He kicked off promotion for his sequel Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, putting the host through a rigorous test for COVID-19.

A second Borat film from Sacha Baron Cohen seemed unlikely given the popularity of the character and how easily recognizable he became after the 2006 hit film. But Cohen surprised everyone by announcing that his sequel was filmed, edited, and ready to be released on Amazon Prime Video on Oct. 23.

On Monday night, Borat arrived at Jimmy Kimmel Live! and completely took over the late night show. In a time when all interviews have been remote, it was only fitting that the journalist-turned-movie star was one of the first guests to sit across from Jimmy Kimmel.

The host may have regretted that decision when the Kazakh started in on his COVID-19 questionnaire and physical examination. Things only got crazier from there as you can see in the clip below:

Sacha Baron Cohen couldn’t have picked a better time to revive Borat. The character seems even more relevant now than he did 14 years ago when he made his big screen debut. His blend of cultural commentary mixed with absurd humor is something late night television has been trying to do its best at over the past four years.

The extremes of Borat’s COVID-19 test may be applauded by those who think safety precautions have gone overboard and see Cohen as mocking them. But the reality is that the comedian is mocking those who aren’t taking things seriously and ignoring the science. Delivering this satire through dirty jokes and crude humor is what makes the character so successful and Cohen a master at his craft.

Borat gave Jimmy Kimmel a taste of his own medicine

Jimmy Kimmel deserves credit for playing along as much as he could during this interview. 14 years ago, everyone learned how unpredictable Cohen’s character can be when invited on to another show. Even with that knowledge, Kimmel was taken off guard by the extent of Borat’s test as well as his daughter’s desire for the host’s pants.

But Kimmel can’t be too upset given his own sense of humor. When his show returned to the studio, Kimmel used the opportunity to play a prank on his employees. And just like Borat’s test, Kimmel’s was all about asking ridiculous questions and testing the patience of his staff.
