After a quiet week, late-night TV is back with a must-see lineup of guests

If you felt like the late night TV options were lacking last week, you’re not alone. Almost every show was off and left fans without too many options when it came to comedy and celebrity interviews. That is set to change this week.

Politics will continue to have a major influence on late night shows this week. A third and final debate is scheduled for Thursday and President Donald Trump continues to hold rallies around the country. These typically make for easy targets in monologues and with the election just over two weeks away, comedians will be on top of their games.

Outside of election coverage, there is plenty from the world of entertainment for late night to discuss this week. A number of new shows and movies are starting new seasons or arriving on streaming services. With that, the stars will be out this week to promote their latest projects.

Here are Last Night On’s picks for the five late night TV guests to watch this week. Be sure to let us know who you’ll be tuning in to see.

Late night TV guest to watch: Sacha Baron Cohen

Jimmy Kimmel Live! starts its week with a new episode featuring a man that is about to become one of the most talked-about people in the country. Actor Sacha Baron Cohen is the lead guest on Monday, Oct. 19.

Cohen has two projects to promote on the surface, they couldn’t seem more different. He stars in The Trial of the Chicago 7 directed by Aaron Sorkin that recently went live on Netflix. Later this month, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm launches on Amazon Prime Video.

The Borat sequel is guaranteed to make headlines especially given how it came together so quickly and deals with issues related to the pandemic and election. Expect Kimmel to get some insight on why now was the best time for Borat to return. And Cohen’s Netflix movie is also worth discussing following its positive reviews.

Late night TV guest to watch: Natalie Portman

Another talented performer takes center stage on late night TV this week. Catch Natalie Portman on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans will be happy to know that Portman is preparing to return to her role as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder. Filming is set to begin in Jan. 2021 so it’s likely that Fallon will ask Portman about how she’s getting ready, especially with the news that she’ll take on the mantle of Thor this time around.

Portman should also plug her new book. Natalie Portman’s Fables is set to be published on Oct. 20. The illustrated children’s book updates classic fables for modern audiences.

Late night TV guest to watch: Michael Keaton

You’ll want to check in with the other Jimmy on Tuesday night, too. Actor Michael Keaton will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Oct. 20.

Keaton is also featured in The Trial of the Chicago 7. Kimmel will likely ask the actor how he became involved in the project and what he thought of the experience.

For comic book and superhero fans like Kimmel, there is a lot more to discuss with Keaton. It was announced that Keaton will return to the role of Batman in The Flash, playing the same version he made famous with Batman and Batman Returns. Keaton is also set to appear in the Marvel film Morbius. Kimmel will be just as excited as fans at home to ask Keaton about these projects.

Late night TV guest to watch: Governor Andrew Cuomo

After taking last week off, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is back. The show has a big night planned for Thursday, Oct. 22 with New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo as the guest.

It will also be the night of the final presidential debate so there is a good chance The Late Show will be live on Thursday night. Gov. Cuomo should be asked to weigh in on how each candidate performed.

Colbert will also likely put some heat on Gov. Cuomo about New York’s response the pandemic and what the plan is moving forward. The governor has sparred with President Trump over the past few months, another topic that is sure to come up.

Late night TV guest to watch: Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman will always have a special place in the history of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Another chapter gets added when she joins the show on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Nobody can forget the hilarious, awkward, and charming interview they had above when Jimmy Fallon found out he blew his chance with Kidman. The two have been able to laugh about it and turn it into a running joke on the show.

Kidman will promote her new HBO miniseries The Undoing that premieres on Oct. 25. Written by David E. Kelley, the show follows Kidman as a successful therapist whose life quickly unravels. The chemistry between Kidman and Fallon alone is enough to tune in to their interview but The Undoing sounds like a show that fans will want to hear about.
