Is Real Time with Bill Maher new tonight, October 16?
By Matt Moore
What should Real Time with Bill Maher fans expect to see tonight on HBO?
It has been a very quiet week in late-night television. But that could change very quickly with a brand new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher.
Shows that typically take political comedy head-on, such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Late Night with Seth Meyers, have been absent all week. It’s been a case of bad timing as stories such as the Supreme Court Justice hearings, dueling town halls, and the latest pandemic developments have dominated the headlines.
Bill Maher has the benefit of airing on Friday nights, meaning he’s had all week to digest the news and formulate his thoughts on all of it. Fans will get to hear from the comedian on tonight’s all-new episode of Real Time.
Who is on Real Time with Bill Maher tonight?
Bill Maher will get into the relationship between the election and the pandemic with his first interview guest. Fareed Zakaria returns to start things off.
Zakaria is an author and host of Fareed Zakaria GPS on CNN. His latest book is Ten Lessons for a Post-Pandemic World and was released on Oct. 6. Expect him to discuss the pandemic’s impact on economic inequality, social mobility, and the concept of the American dream.
Next, Maher will speak with actor John Leguizamo. He’ll be making his Real Time debut.
Leguizamo is known for his roles in Carlito’s Way, Ice Age, and John Wick. He is one of the artists who have called for more Latinx representation in the entertainment industry. Leguizamo is also set to appear on Essential Heroes: A Momento Latino Event, a television special honoring Latinx culture. This should be the topic tonight when he sits down with Maher. The actor could also discuss his film Critical Thinking that marks his directorial debut.
The panel will feature two journalists. Both men have been past guests on Real Time with Bill Maher.
Noah Rothman is an author and political commentator who serves as the online editor of Commentary, a neoconservative publication. He should weigh in on the state of American politics over the past four years and whether or not this climate can be reversed.
John Avlon is a political commentator who can be seen on CNN. His book Washington’s Farewell: The Founding Father’s Warning to Future Generations examines President George Washington’s thoughts on how extreme partisanship, national debt, and foreign wars could undermine Democracy. Avlon may look to unpack President Trump’s town hall from Thursday night, specifically his refusal to denounce conspiracy theories in order to preserve his base.
Real Time with Bill Maher airs tonight at 10:00 p.m. You can watch it on HBO or HBO Max. Be sure to check back with Last Night On for all the highlights.
