The Daily Show once again turned to Fox News for a hard look at President Donald Trump

Compared to the presidential debate, the debate between Senator Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence sounded like a friendly chat. Still, that didn’t stop Fox News from attacking Sen. Harris for her behavior. But The Daily Show couldn’t help but notice that the network’s criticism sounded familiar.

The most memorable moment from the Harris-Pence debate was the fly that landed on Vice President Pence’s head. Both candidates struggled to answer questions directly at time and the vice president often discussed whatever topic he wanted regardless of what was asked.

As expected, both sides claimed victory in the debate. It very may well have been the last debate we see in 2020. President Donald Trump backed out of a proposed virtual debate with former Vice President Joe Biden before the debate was canceled altogether.

In the aftermath of the vice presidential debate, Fox News hosts and contributors targeted Sen. Harris for just about everything she did. In particular, her smirks and eye rolls were deemed unacceptable by the Fox crew. The Daily Show decided to see what would happen if those same criticisms were applied to Donald Trump in 2016:

The Daily Show continues to mock President Trump with help from Fox News

Just like there is always a past tweet from Donald Trump criticizing something he’s done as president, there is a Fox News clip that does the same thing. The network has been shameless in how its standards and expectations for the White House have changed over the past four years.

The Daily Show highlights that with this montage of Fox News attacking Sen. Harris for her facial expressions. The criticisms are clearly a reach as Sen. Harris didn’t provide much material for her opponents to zero in on, save for dodging a question about packing the Supreme Court.

The “Obama scandal” series has perhaps best exemplified how Fox News has moved the goalposts when it comes to presidential behavior. President Barack Obama was bashed for wearing a tan suit, ordering Dijon mustard, and much more that pale in comparison to President Trump’s scandals.

Fox News has also been a major help in The Daily Show questioning if President Trump’s fit for office. The Comedy Central show has used Fox News clips to mock President Trump’s teleprompter struggles and his mental acuity.

Every late-night television show takes shots at Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, and the rest of Fox News. But nobody does it quite like The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
