A Closer Look argued President Trump is undermining the post office

Late Night with Seth Meyers continued to examine President Donald Trump’s desperation on Tuesday night. “A Closer Look” unpacked how and why the president plans to sabotage the post office ahead of the Nov. election.

According to Meyers, President Trump and his Republican allies know their days in power are numbered. It’s why campaign strategies of 2016 have been revived, why the pandemic has been downplayed, and why efforts are underway to minimize voter turnout.

The latest example comes in the form of attacks on the U.S. Postal Service. President Trump is in the middle of a campaign to discredit mail-in voting and has suggested that the USPS wouldn’t be able to handle the number of ballots it could receive as voters avoid going out during the pandemic.

It is an act of desperation in the eyes of Seth Meyers. The Late Night host used “A Closer Look” to explain why and expose how the president could undermine the Nov. election by dismantling the Post Office.

A Closer Look calls out President Trump’s plan to exclude people from democracy

Seth Meyers opens “A Closer Look” by reminding his audience that President Donald Trump has never been well-liked by Americans. His approval rating has never cracked 50% and he quickly became one of the most divisive figures in history.

Rather than try to appeal to more Americans and be a leader to everyone, President Trump has attempted to tighten the circle around himself. Meyers states that with the help of the conservative movement and past legislation, the president has worked to exclude people from the democratic process in order to maintain power.

Changes to the USPS are part of that plan. Power has been centralized around Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and his changes have slowed the delivery of mail across the country. Then there was the report that White House aides are exploring ways that executive orders can curb mail-in voting.

Meyers exposes how President Trump has put himself in a win-win situation. Even if mail-in ballots are received and counted, the president has laid the foundation to challenge the results in court and sow confusion among Americans. Again, this reiterates the desperation theme that has been constant in “A Closer Look” over the past few weeks.

With less than 100 days to the election and former Vice President Joe Biden selecting Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate, things re likely to only get more desperate for Team Trump. Late-night fans can count on Seth Meyers and “A Closer Look” to keep a watchful eye on all of it.
