In A Closer Look, Seth Meyers called President Trump’s executive orders a PR stunt

On the surface, President Donald Trump is trying to come up with a plan to combat the pandemic. But according to Seth Meyers, taking a closer look reveals that it’s all a sham and public relations stunt born of desperation.

President Trump announced several executive orders designed to address issues related to healthcare, evictions, and the unemployment benefits. The problem, according to multiple experts, is that the orders are unconstitutional.

Any effort to add legitimacy to these measures fell short when the president delivered the news from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. This was Seth Meyers’s takeaway as he unpacked President Trump’s executive orders during “A Closer Look” on Monday night’s episode of Late Night.

On top of the “meaningless” executive orders, President Trump also appeared to take credit for a key part of Obamacare regarding pre-existing conditions. It was the latest in an ongoing list of comments from the president that deserved a closer look from Meyers.

A Closer Look continues to portray President Trump as desperate

Late Night with Seth Meyers has tried to discover the underlying motivation behind President Donald Trump’s words and actions. Typically, “A Closer Look” has it boiled down to narcissism or bigotry. But the pandemic and upcoming election have brought out something new in the president: desperation.

According to Meyers, President Trump and his Republican allies can see the writing on the wall. It looks as if former Vice President Joe Biden will defeat President Trump in a landslide come November. But rather than prove itself by governing, the Trump administration is turning to desperate measures to try to win four more years.

Meyers argues that President Trump has no accomplishments of his own to promote. So instead, the president has taken credit for work done by President Barack Obama on the Veterans Choice Act and coverage for pre-existing conditions established by Obamacare.

“A Closer Look” calls out the president for his executive orders as Meyers refers to them as a “sham” and “meaningless.” It certainly is not the first time President Trump has relied on executive orders to push his agenda only to face pushback from the likes of Meyers.

If nothing changes following these executive orders, then Meyers will be right to call them a PR stunt. And if that happens, the Late Night host is likely to see even more desperation set in for Team Trump.
