A Closer Look questioned the Trump administration’s approach to the COVID-19 crisis

The entire world has had to adapt to life during the novel coronavirus pandemic. Quarantines, lockdown, social distancing, and masks have become part of everyday life. But according to Seth Meyers in “A Closer Look,” President Donald Trump and his allies are pushing a much different message of what it means to adapt.

Late Night with Seth Meyers has been documenting the White House’s message on COVID-19 from the very start. And never has the NBC late night show approved of how President Trump and his administration has addressed the pandemic or how it has planned to improve the health and safety of Americans.

Meyers argues that the longer the pandemic has gone on, the more President Trump has ignored it. Cases are spiking across the country, contradicting the president’s prediction that the virus would miraculously disappear with warmer weather or that the country was ready to return to normal.

And rather than refocus on policies to combat the spread, Team Trump is pushing a much different narrative. In Wednesday’s “A Closer Look,” Meyers explained the “suck it up” message being spread by the president and his allies.

A Closer Look argued that President Trump has made the pandemic worse

Not only does Seth Meyers believe that President Donald Trump has failed to stabilize the country during the pandemic but the Late Night host says the president has made things worse. Ignoring medical experts to hold rallies and failing to demonstrate any empathy is part of the reason Meyers condemns President Trump.

“A Closer Look” calls out the White House and the Republican Party for focusing on cancel culture, monuments, and golf instead of the health crisis gripping the country. Meyers highlights the message to “deal with it” when it comes to hospitalizations, unemployment, and the other consequences of the pandemic.

That message has been echoed by conservative pundits, giving Meyers another opportunity to take a shot at Fox News. The call to “adapt” or “just live with” the pandemic doesn’t sit well with Meyers given how so much of it was preventable. Other countries have demonstrated that it was possible to overcome the crisis but “A Closer Look” argues that the leadership failures have prevented the U.S. from doing the same.

The only silver lining that Meyers can see is Team Trump turning on itself. Their failures won’t stop and there isn’t sincere loyalty among them for any other outcome. When that happens, Meyers will surely want to take another closer look at it all.
