Seth Meyers looked at President Donald Trump’s busy weekend on Twitter that included coming to the defense of Fox News.

It was another busy weekend for President Donald Trump as he tackled issues related to his top priorities. Unfortunately, his priorities included cable news show, late night comedy, and Hillary Clinton. Late Night with Seth Meyers did its best to sort through all with “A Closer Look.”

In the aftermath of the New Zealand tragedy, many had hoped that President Trump would offer his sympathy and steer clear of the spotlight. At the very least, hope was that we would avoid anything that could be construed as insensitive or oblivious.

However that wasn’t exactly the case. The president’s 50 tweets over the weekend included a defense of Fox News host Jeanine Pirro who was suspended for anti-Muslim comments. Trump then dismissed the rising threat of white nationalism when asked to comment by a journalist.

Trump’s support of Fox News is nothing new. Late night has mentioned it plenty of times before and noted how the network seems to have influence over the president’s decision making. That is where Seth Meyers picked things up on last night’s edition of “A Closer Look.”

You would think that at this point Meyers couldn’t be shocked by Trump’s behavior. But even the late night host seems incredulous that Donald Trump spends so much time worrying about such a random assortment of topics. His rants included yet another attack on Saturday Night Live despite it being a rerun of their Christmas episode.

This edition of “A Closer Look” has some of Meyers’ best jokes in recent weeks. Describing Trump’s tweets as scribbling on the wall of a psych ward, comparing him to the host of the Hunger Games, and the bit on Trump reading documents all landed well. They could have been the highlights of separate segments but instead we get them all inside of 10 minutes.

The clip proves that no matter how unbelievable President Donald Trump’s behavior gets, Seth Meyers will stay on top of his game at Late Night. “A Closer Look” has become one of the most popular segments across late night television not only for how Meyers breaks down a story but for the comedy he brings to audiences every night.
