4. A Closer Look at the Iran crisis and President Trump blaming President Obama

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but President Donald Trump blamed President Barack Obama for America’s problems. Even in 2020, even three and a half years into his tenure, President Trump is pointing the finger at his predecessor. And every time it happens, Late Night takes a closer look.

Do you remember the escalating tension between the U.S. and Iran earlier this year? We can’t blame you if you don’t recall that back in Jan., some thought we were on the brink of World War III. A lot has happened since then and the crisis feels like it was years ago, not months.

When President Trump addressed the nation over Iran, many were quick to criticize him once again. Seth Meyers, like others,  said the entire situation could have been avoided if President Trump kept the Iran nuclear deal in place or chose a different option than killing an Irani general.

This edition of “A Closer Look” features a lot of President Trump’s “greatest hits.” Meyers says the president acted like a hero for fixing a mess he created, blamed President Obama for the problem, cited Fox News, and pushed a debunked theory as fact. It’s hard to find a better clip that summarizes what the White House is all about in 2020 as well as how good “A Closer Look” is at tearing it down.
