Even if you aren’t traveling, Saturday Night Live can help you get away

We’ve come to the end of June and the Fourth of July holiday is right around the corner. It’s typically a time when millions of Americans are traveling and taking their first vacation of the summer. But circumstances are different in 2020 and many people will be staying home and only dreaming of a vacation. That’s where Saturday Night Live can help.

Quarantine guidelines are still in place around the country even as different states enter different phases of reopening. For many, that means traveling across state lines may not be feasible. The same can be said about international travel.

As we’ve seen time and time againSaturday Night Live has a collection of sketches for just about every holiday, event, occasion, or hobby that you can think of. Vacations are no different and some of SNL’s best work on the topic has come in recent seasons.

There are few things that can’t be cured or made better than by watching SNL at it’s best. So Last Night On has pulled together some of the best to help you get in the vacation spirit whether you’re going anywhere or staying right at home.

Saturday Night Live’s travel sketches have been set all over the world

We’ll start with some sketches all about traveling around the U.S.A. Road trips, beach houses, and RV life are all quintessential parts of the vacation life. And even when you try to get away, there is no guarantee you won’t run into fellow travelers or hospitality staff that leave you scratching your head. To top it all off, no vacation would be complete without sharing stories with friends and family whether they want to hear them or not.

If any of this sounds familiar or hits close to home, then you shouldn’t be surprised that Saturday Night Live has covered it all. Here’s the proof:

While the Fourth of July is the perfect time to stay home and celebrate America’s birthday, the rest of the summer is usually when people go abroad. Americans adapting to new cultures and meeting interesting people along the way are two popular premises in Saturday Night Live‘s vacation sketches.

Chances are that your planned trip to Italy, Mexico, or anywhere else in the world has been put on hold this summer. But if you want a little taste of what the trip could have been like, let SNL show you in these sketches:

For those staying home for the foreseeable future, Saturday Night Live has your experience covered, too. Anyone concerned about the pandemic and feels like it would be safest to stay home or stay with relatives will be facing a completely different set of challenges compared to those willing to get away.

With that in mind, we’re closing out our look at Saturday Night Live‘s best vacation sketches from recent history with two that are especially timely right now. Safe travels, everyone!
