John Bolton is the top guest on tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s promotion tour for his book The Room Where It Happened continues tonight. It will bring him to Real Time with Bill Maher in what should be a must-see interview.

It has been a busy week for Bolton, who also served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Last Sunday, he sat down with Martha Raddatz of ABC News to discuss the details of his book. He followed that up with an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in what was one of Stephen Colbert’s best interviews in recent memory.

Tonight, Bolton may be facing his toughest test when it comes to an interviewer. He will be the lead guest for an all-new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. Perhaps luckily for Bolton, he has made two previous appearances on Real Time in 2009 and 2010. However, his work in President Donald Trump’s administration likely severed any goodwill he built up with Maher.

It’s unlikely that Bolton can reveal anything that has been covered in leaked excerpts from the book or in the interviews with Raddatz and Colbert. But in Maher, he could find a much more combative interviewer.

That’s not to say Colbert let Bolton off easy. He pressured Bolton and was able to point out inconsistencies with his answers. Fans can just expect Maher to take things to the next level. Bolton isn’t likely to crumble under the pressure of Maher’s questioning but it could make for uncomfortable viewing in the best way.

Here is the rest of tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher guest lineup

While John Bolton will be the main event tonight, there are other guests that Real Time fans will definitely want to see. It starts with Bill Maher’s second virtual interview guest.

Kara Swisher is a journalist and co-founder of the technology news website Recode. Swisher was last on Real Time back in Jan. on the season 18 premiere. Swisher is also a contributor to The New York Times and she criticized the paper for publishing an op-ed by Senator Tim Cotton supporting military force against American protestors. Expect Swisher to weigh in on media coverage of the pandemic, protests, and President Trump.

Author and philanthropist Wes Moore is on tonight’s panel, making his third Real Time appearance. He is the chief executive officer of the Robinhood Foundation fighting poverty in New York City. Earlier this month, he published the book Five Days: The Fiery Reckoning of an American City about Baltimore in the aftermath of the 2015 death of Freddie Gray. Tonight, expect Moore to discuss police brutality and what changes need to be made about how American cities are policed.

Political consultant, media personality, and author James Carville is also on tonight’s panel. He was last on Real Time in 2017. He currently hosts the podcast “2020 Politics War Room” examining the election. Carville recently stated there was no chance President Trump will be re-elected and that he doesn’t care who former Vice President Joe Biden picks as his running mate. He should further explain why tonight with Bill Maher.
