Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon continues Staff Favorites week tonight
By Matt Moore
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is showcasing its favorite moments with the biggest stars.
For the past 11 years, Jimmy Fallon has been interviewing the biggest names in entertainment, sports, and politics. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will be highlighting some of the best moments, hand-picked by members of the staff.
With yesterday being Memorial Day, almost the entire lineup of late night television shows are off this week. Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be the only one to bring brand new episodes to the table. However, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon ensured that fans won’t be stuck with just your typical reruns. Instead, they’ll get the best of both The Tonight Show and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Fans can expect to see some of their favorite celebrities and Tonight Show guests highlighted this week. The Tonight Show is still late night’s premier franchise and Fallon often boasts the guest lineup with the most star power.
Things kicked off on Monday night’s show. It featured some of Fallon’s best monologue moments along with highlights from Ariana Grande, Paul McCartney, and Blake Shelton. That set the bar pretty high for the rest of the week. Here’s a preview of some of the other names expected to show up in this week’s “best of” episodes.
Tuesday, May 26
Jennifer Lopez has been one of Jimmy Fallon’s favorite guests during his late night career. The multitalented star has proven why by always delivering an entertaining story or showing a willingness to go along with any bit.
It seems like just about any time Lopez has been on his show, Fallon has found a way to put her dancing skills to the test. So whether it is revisiting “Tight Pants” or the history of music video dancing, fans will probably be treated to Lopez and Fallon showing off their moves.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama will also be featured tonight. She made several visits to The Tonight Show while her husband was in the White House. Perhaps most famously, she helped showcase the “History of Mom Dancing” with Fallon:
Obama also gave some insightful interviews that offered a glimpse into the Obama family’s lives. She reflected on raising her daughters in the White House and shared her thoughts on leaving after President Barack Obama’s two terms ended. Those interviews, along with viral moments of her surprising admirers, prove that Michelle Obama deserves to be on Fallon’s “best of” show.
Wednesday, May 27
Like Jennifer Lopez, Jamie Foxx is a multitalented entertainer who has been sitting on Jimmy Fallon’s couch for years. Few people bring the kind of energy to the studio that Foxx does anytime he’s on the show.
Foxx is neck and neck with Ariana Grande for the Tonight Show title of best “Musical Impressions” performer. Just watch the clip above to see why. Fans can be pretty much guaranteed to see Foxx’s musical abilities on display during Wednesday’s “Staff Favorites” show.
Will Ferrell will also get the spotlight on Wednesday. His time with Fallon at Saturday Night Live, including co-starring in the famous “More Cowbell” sketch, has translated to excellent chemistry as a late night guest. Then again, Ferrell typically brings the house down no matter which show he visits.
Just about anything Ferrell has done on Fallon’s shows could be on the table. But if we had to pick just one moment, it would probably be the Tonight Show drum off with Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Stay tuned.
Thursday, May 28
It wouldn’t be right to have a “Best Of” week that didn’t include Justin Timberlake. The singer/actor has played a major role in Fallon’s late night success.
It won’t be easy for the Tonight Show staff to narrow down Timberlake’s best moments with Fallon. The “Camp Winnipesaukee” sketches, their musical moments, or just demonstrations of their friendship are all contenders.
Another one of Fallon’s former Saturday Night Live co-stars will be featured on Thursday. Amy Poehler’s best moments will also be featured.
As one of the funniest people on the planet, Poehler’s interviews are always entertaining. But it will likely be some of the games she’s played with Fallon that get the spotlight. “Truth or Truth,” “Think Fast!,” and “Shouting Charades” are some that Poehler has done and made a lasting impression on fans.
Friday, May 29
The Tonight Show caps off its “Staff Favorites” week by pulling out all the stops. Former President Barack Obama will be the highlight of Friday’s show.
President Obama first appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon before making multiple visits to The Tonight Show as his time in office ended. In the interviews, President Obama has discussed his family, the 2016 election, and what his plans were after leaving office. And as you can see in the clip above, he had some fun along the way.
Steve Carell’s best moments will also be featured on Friday night. He’s had some pretty good interview moments discussing his film career. But like so many Tonight Show guests, Carell’s best moments came while playing games.
“Word Sneak” and “Password” are two examples of where Carell showed off his quick wit and sense of humor. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon staff could pick either one of those or go with Carell’s performance in “Real People, Fake Arms.”
