This is the event that made the internet, and the world,  take notice of Jimmy Kimmel as the king of pranks. The comedian was able to troll the media and everyone online with a viral video that turned out to be completely staged.

People of a certain age may not remember the twerking craze of 2012-2013. But it was very much a thing. The dance move was referenced in songs, featured in music videos, and quickly found its ways into the mainstream where everyone referenced it.

So when a video made its way online showing a twerk attempt that resulted in pants on fire, it was no surprise to see it take the internet by storm. Everyone shared the video and mocked the girl for her “epic twerk fail.” But as it turned out, the girl whose pants were on fire was in fact, a liar.

Kimmel’s big reveal was a massive surprise. It is the origin of so many future viral moments being blamed on the comedian. It was also an early example of how so many people on social media could be tricked into taking something at face value.
