4. Donald Trump is clearly losing it

Nobody in late night covered a Donald Trump late night in 2019 like Late Night with Seth Meyers. You don’t have to look any further than “A Closer Look” for the evidence. But coming in at a close second is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Luckily for Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and the rest of late night, there were plenty of meltdowns in 2019 to go around. And it was towards the end of the year as the walls of impeachment closed in that President Trump started to lose his grip. Unless, of course, you consider the grip he had on his iPhone.

Twitter is the go-to source for trying to understand the mindset of President Trump. Between quoting Fox News contributors, you’ll see tweets about press coverage, Democrats, and more. For this monologue from Oct., Colbert looked to Trump’s feed to show audiences that a Twitter meltdown was the President’s only impeachment defense.

The apparent lack in strategy when it came to defending President Trump against impeachment was another common theme in Colbert’s monologues. But this one is the best in showcasing how that reality was hitting the President himself just weeks before he was officially impeached.
