Stephen Colbert turned his attention to one of President Donald Trump’s fiercest supporters in Representative Devin Nunes.

What started off as questions over President Donald Trump’s phone call to Ukraine has now spiraled to involve a number of White House officials, lawmakers, and individuals operating outside of the government. That means that Stephen Colbert can’t, or won’t, just focus on the President.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was already treating the public impeachment hearings like a holiday. Televised testimony has been the gift that keeps on giving in terms of comedy as Colbert has been able to stuff his monologues with material from testimony that is largely damning against President Trump.

Testimony has implicated more of the Trump White House, giving Colbert more targets for his punchlines. Colbert and the rest of late night are well aware of the role played by Rudy Giuliani. But we’ve learned more about how much Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Energy Secretary Rick Perry were involved.

If you have been watching the hearings on television then you’ve seen a lot of Representative Devin Nunes. The Republican from California is the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee and has been the face of President Trump’s defense during the hearings.

It was reported that Giuliani’s recently arrested associate Lev Parnas has evidence indicating that Representative Nunes met with Ukrainians with the intent being to dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden.

Representative Nunes was asked about the allegations but refused to answer. The report and Nunes’ refusal landed him in Stephen Colbert’s spotlight on Monday night.

Stephen Colbert reflects on all the interest characters that have been introduced since the Ukraine scandal began. It’s easy to see why late night hosts like Colbert and Seth Meyers are treating the impeachment inquiry like a soap opera or television drama despite claims that there is a severe lack of “pizzazz.”

Rudy Giuliani introduced America to Lev Parnas who has in turn introduced Devin Nunes to public scrutiny. Such scrutiny for members of Team Trump seems to always start with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Colbert lays out exactly why Devin deserves to be mocked and ridiculed. As the top Republican investigating whether President Trump tried to get dirt on Joe Biden, Nunes was trying to get dirt on Joe Biden.

Nunes was given an opportunity to deny the allegations but instead fist chose to dismiss CNN as unworthy of his time in this lifetime or the next. The California representative did go on to call the reports false and examples of defamation. Yet Colbert isn’t buying it given Nunes past struggles differentiating the truth from conspiracy theories.

If the allegations turn out to be true, it could mean Representative Devin Nunes is in trouble. It is an interest subplot to keep an eye on as the impeachment drama continues to unfold. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will certainly be watching.
