Late Night with Seth Meyers used “A Closer Look” to break down the first public impeachment hearing.

The impeachment inquiry finally moved from behind closed doors to the front and center of America’s attention. The hearing televised Wednesday uncovered another bombshell about President Donald Trump’s role in the Ukraine scandal according to Seth Meyers.

Meyers and his Late Night team have been taking an impeachment-style deep dive into Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and Ukraine since the story first broke. A number of “A Closer Look” segments have attempted to cover every angle of the scandal from Giuliani’s role to Republican attempts to defend President Trump’s actions.

To the surprise of no one familiar with Late Night, Meyers is convinced that President Trump abused his power and engaged in a bribery attempt. It is now up to House Democrats to make that case in front of the American public.

The first major step in that process took place Wednesday. Major testimony was delivered by Bill Taylor and George Kent, two U.S. diplomats with extensive foreign policy experience who were working in Ukraine.

In “A Closer Look,” Meyers pointed out that Republicans don’t contest most of the facts surrounding the President’s phone call to Ukraine. Instead, the Late Night host argued that Republicans have resorted to lies. Watch as Meyers makes his case and explains which part of the hearing was the most damning for President Trump.

On what was revealed in the hearing, Meyers can only conclude that President Trump and his associates are “the worst criminals in history.” Taylor’s testimony that his aid overheard President Trump asking Ambassador Gordon Sondland about the “investigations” and Sondland remarking that President Trump only cared about the Bidens is damning according to Meyers.

Meyers thinks that this piece of testimony is more evidence directly linking President Trump to the scheme to withhold military aid from Ukraine in exchange for an investigation into the Bidens. It is more than enough proof to convince the comedian of Trump’s guilt but in fairness, Meyers came to that conclusion a long time ago.

The public impeachment hearing was something of a culmination of everything “A Closer Look” has explored in the past couple of months. It was like watching a reunion of punchlines Meyers has delivered to his fans since the story first started making headlines.

At the heart of it is President Donald Trump’s alleged criminal behavior on top of an apparent incompetence. These are two of the main foundations on which Meyers builds his monologues and “A Closer Look” each week.

Then there were the Republican lawmakers eager to come to President Trump’s defense. While The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has caught on in recent weeks, it has always been Late Night with Seth Meyers that ensures GOP members don’t go unpunished for their actions. Meyers was more than happy to once again lampoon Representatives Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan.

Seth Meyers is now certain that President Donald Trump will be impeached after watching the first day of public testimony. When the only defense is that the situation isn’t as outlandish as it could be, it’s hard not to see it any other way.
