Jennifer Aniston feeds Friends reunion rumor on Stephen Colbert
By Matt Moore
Jennifer Aniston told Stephen Colbert that something is happening with a Friends reunion.
Television fans are some of the most loyal fans in the world. It can be difficult for many fans to let go of their favorite shows, especially if that show left at the height of its popularity. That is certainly the case with Friends and star Jennifer Aniston has been fanning the flames of a reunion.
Aniston is out promoting her new Apple TV+ series Morning Show. The talented cast joining Aniston includes Steve Carell and Reese Witherspoon. Part of the hype for Morning Show is that it marks a return to television for two legends of the medium in Carell and Aniston.
Carell has frequently been asked about a reboot or continuation of The Office. He’s added to a list that includes Jerry Seinfeld asked about Seinfeld, Tina Fey asked about 30 Rock, and countless others.
But nobody has been asked about reunions more than Jennifer Aniston. The actress and her Friends co-stars can rarely be interviewed without the iconic sitcom being a topic. Typically, the stars seem content to let the show live on through Netflix and cable reruns.
Now Aniston is starting to change her tune. First she appeared on Ellen and suggested that “something is happening” with Friends. Stephen Colbert followed up on this during Aniston’s visit to The Late Show.
Combining what Aniston told Ellen DeGeneres and Stephen Colbert, fans can forget any chance of a full blown reboot of Friends. The creators and stars don’t seem interested in reviving the series like Will and Grace.
But that doesn’t mean something else can’t happen. There are now more options than ever when it comes to a television special or movie. Friends could follow Breaking Bad‘s lead and put out a movie. Any project like that would probably land on NBC’s new streaming service Peacock.
Until something official is announced, fans will have to rely on Jennifer Aniston’s record-breaking Instagram account to see the Friends cast together. What do you think of a Friends reunion project? Any ideas on what it could be? Let us know in the comment section below!
