Jennifer Aniston told Jimmy Kimmel about her decision to join Instagram and what she thinks about social media.

Jennifer Aniston made headlines when she finally joined Instagram. The actress set records on her way to amassing over 11 million followers in just a matter of days. On Jimmy Kimmel Live! she explained why she finally gave in and made her official Instagram account.

Aniston broke a world record set by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by racking up a million followers in less than six hours when she joined Instagram on Oct. 15. That number has jumped up to just under 12 million as of Oct. 17.

Aniston, 50, has been urged in the past to get on social media. The actress has a fanbase of millions that have stuck with her since Friends and watched her become one of the most successful actresses working today.

Her new AppleTV+ series Morning Show, co-starring Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell, is set to debut on Nov. 1. As if the cast and Aniston’s return to television wasn’t enough to build hype, Aniston’s Instagram launch certainly helped generate even more buzz around the star. Aniston marked the occasion with help from her Friends co-stars.

Days after posting the Friends reunion, Aniston was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. She explained her decision to join Instagram, why she’s not exactly a newcomer to the world of Instagram, and what annoys her about social media.

Aniston is no stranger to having her picture taken, whether by professionals or paparazzi. An Instagram account can give the actress control over what gets out into the public and a chance to directly respond to anything she chooses. But to ask Aniston, she isn’t really sure why she joined Instagram or why she finally gave in to the peer pressure.

Jimmy Kimmel also revealed that Aniston had a “finsta,” or fake Instagram account. The actress admitted it was for stalking purposes but it also gave her an idea of what to expect once her official account went live. Kimmel and Aniston are friends so it’s not surprising to hear that the comedian was aware of Aniston’s previous social media presence.
