Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, Sept. 28, 2019?
By Matt Moore
Is tonight finally the night when Saturday Night Live returns for season 45?
It’s that time of year where you can feel a change in the air. The summer is long gone and we’re finally officially in to the fall season. And late night fans know that with the fall comes a new season of Saturday Night Live.
It has been a very busy offseason for SNL. The show released dozens of vintage clips dating back to its start in 1975, highlighting fan favorite cast members like Bill Murray, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell.
Then there was the news that cast member Leslie Jones would not be returning. She leaves behind a void that is unlikely to be filled despite the remaining talent like Kate McKinnon, Cecliy Strong, Kenan Thompson and Melissa Villasenor.
Some bad press also found its way to Studio 8H. The hiring of cast members Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman were celebrated. But Shane Gillis wasn’t received so warmly after racist remarks from his podcast surfaced. Saturday Night Live tried to hold steady but eventually pressure mounted to the point Gillis was fired before he even began.
But that is all in the past. Lorne Michaels and the rest of the Emmy winning team at Saturday Night Live are ready to look ahead to a new season.
That new season starts tonight. Yes, there will be a brand new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight. Your host is Woody Harrelson and the musical guest is Billie Eilish.
