Should fans expect to see a brand new episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO?

It is Sunday, the end of the weekend and the last chance for rest before another week of work and school. For millions of late night fans, no week is complete without an episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

To no one’s surprise, the show has been delivering all season. Standout episodes have featured segments on prison labor, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and robocalls.

And with the end of summer came the end of late night shows taking vacation. Fall is an important time of year for the entire television industry. So whether it is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, or The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, fans should expect less time off and reruns from their favorite shows.

However, there is one exception. A special event can throw things for a loop and prevent a show from taping a new episode. Unfortunately for Last Week Tonight fans, tonight is one of those special occasions.

There will not be a new episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver for Sept. 22. Instead the focus will be on the Emmy Awards held tonight where John Oliver and company are once again nominated.
