This seven and a half minute clip best sums up what a Bill Burr Conan appearance is all about. The comedian takes on a the topic of airline travel, something that stresses everybody out, but finds a way to push the envelope in typical Burr fashion.

Burr has put in over 20 years of traveling the country to perform stand-up. Yet when all that hard work pays off and he is rewarded with the coveted “Boarding Group One” the perk is taken away from him.

Again, Burr vocalizes the inner thoughts many of us may have but would never say out loud, never mind on national television. Questioning veterans and people with disabilities normally shouldn’t get a room full of people laughing yet Burr once again has Conan O’Brien trying to catch his breath from laughing.

Airports and air travel are some of the most cliché stand-up topics around. But there is nothing cliché or tired about what Burr says here.

Burr also sidetracks to go after obese people, another sensitive subject these days. Again, plenty of people don’t want to be seated next to an overweight person on a plane but they deal with it internally. Burr doesn’t have that character trait and instead unleashes to O’Brien.

His bit about the dynamic between he and his wife also found its way into Paper Tiger. Burr uses Conan like any comedy club to try out material and gauge the audience response. It’s not surprising to see so much material from these guest spots show up in Burr’s specials.

This rant perfectly encapsulates Bill Burr. It is nearly impossible to tell what is a planned routine and what is the stream of consciousness ranting of a raging lunatic. Regardless, he is arguably the best guest in Conan history and deservedly so.
