Dana Carvey is known for his impressions so of course he has one for President Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump dominates late night television just about as much as he does politics. Just about every host on every show does and impression of the president to varying degrees of success. But sometimes it is best to leave those type of things to the professionals like Dana Carvey.

Dana Carvey has been doing characters, voices, and impressions his entire career dating back to Saturday Night Live. His take on President George H.W. Bush caught the attention of Bush himself, led to a friendship between the two, and went down as one of the most iconic performances in Saturday Night Live history.

We knew that when Carvey visited Conan on Thursday night, it would be a must-watch for late night fans. The two have a long history dating back to their time at Saturday Night Live  together. Carvey was even a guest on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast earlier this year.

No late night show would really be complete these days without mention of President Trump. But rather than dedicate his monologue to the president, Conan O’Brien instead set up Dana Carvey to showoff what may be the best Trump impression around:

As O’Brien prefaces, Carvey likes to find a small little mannerism or verbal crutch to exaggerate for his impressions. It’s how “not gonna do it” became a catchphrase for President Bush. Here Carvey points out Trump’s “improv” skills when he goes off the script and turns away from the teleprompter.

How does it compare to other Trump impressions in late night? It has to be near the top just for the creativity. The hand motions are pretty accurate as well. Carvey does all this without the help of hair and makeup like others have relied on in the past.

Then there are the impressions that hosts like Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and Trevor Noah will drop in the middle of a monologue. They are all variations of the same voice and same accent, but Noah’s on The Daily Show may actually be the best. Colbert deserves recognition for the very specific way in which he reads the president’s tweets.

But Dana Carvey was in the right place doing this impression on Conan. Conan O’Brien has been featuring Trump impressions on his late night shows long before Donald Trump was in the White House. Back when Trump was just the host of The Apprentice O’Brien had a hilariously limited impression.

That trend that started on Late Night with Conan O’Brien continued with Conan. Who can forget the legendary “Trump Off” against Alec Baldwin??

Dana Carvey certainly would have held his own against Alec Baldwin in that competition. He proved once again that he is among the best in comedy when it comes to impressions. How does his version of Donald Trump compare to the rest of late night? Let us know your pick in the comments below.
