Another Barack Obama scandal revisited by The Daily Show

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah continues to look back at scandals that plagued the administration of President Barack Obama.

No president has ever served in office without receiving criticism, experiencing some controversy, or even being the subject of a scandal. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah has made sure no one forgets that President Barack Obama had his fair share of scandals.

With President Donald Trump in the White House, it can seem like Obama was the perfect president. Everything Trump says or does gets examined and especially by late night shows like The Daily Show.

But as Trevor Noah and company have show us, Obama’s time as commander-in-chief was full of scandals. The most recent reminder from The Daily Show is especially relevant coming off the July 4 holiday.

The warning signs about Obama were there in Oct. 2007 when he failed to wear his American flag pin while campaigning. He somehow managed to overcome the scandal to be elected president twice.

Obviously this is a tongue-in-cheek bit from The Daily Show just like the others. Since Trump took office, it has been common to see people pulling up old clips from Fox News and other conservatives acting outraged at seemingly innocuous things.

The flag pin “scandal” is especially relevant considering how much the flag has become a lightning rod in the Trump era. There was the controversy over athletes kneeling during the national anthem to protest police violence that became about disrespecting the flag and the military.

President Trump has gone so far in the other direction by making a point of hugging the flag whenever the opportunity arises. But The Daily Show reminds us that on his biggest day, is inauguration, Trump was photographed without an American flag pin on his lapel.

Pointing out the hypocrisy with which President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump are covered is nothing new. Still, The Daily Show shows us that for some,  actual transgressions and questionable policies from Trump go unchallenged because they pale in comparison to not wearing a pin.
