For the second night in a row The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be live following the Democratic debate.

If you want to be the best, you have to work hard. It’s a sentiment that gets thrown around often and one that Stephen Colbert appears to follow. His Late Show will be live again tonight to coverage part two of the Democratic debate.

With a field of candidates at least 20 deep, it made sense for the Democratic Party to hold two debates rather than just one. This ensures that every candidate gets a fair chance to speak about his or her policies and get a chance in the spotlight.

Wednesday’s night debate was headlined by Senator Elizabeth Warren, former Representative Beto O’Rourke, and Senator Cory Booker among others. Here’s who will be on stage Thursday night:

  • Joe Biden
  • Bernie Sanders
  • Pete Buttigieg
  • Kamala Harris
  • Kirsten Gillibrand
  • Michael Bennet
  • Marianne Williamson
  • Eric Swalwell
  • Andrew Yang
  • John Hickenlooper

We know that a lot of attention will be on former Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Those three have been dominating media coverage among Democrats for some time now.

When part two of the debate draws to a close, it will be Stephen Colbert’s turn to take the stage. Like he did after part one, he will be live on CBS for a special edition of The Late Show.

Wednesday night Colbert was joined by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Thursday night he will have a very different guest in former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Christie should offer a much different perspective on the debate than Ocasio-Cortez. For one, he’s a Republican. On top of that, he has experience himself in these debates stemming from his failed run for the Republican nomination in 2016.

Christie probably won’t get the same reception from the Late Show audience that Ocasio-Cortez got on Wednesday night. The former governor isn’t the most popular politician in the world. But he has been a guest of Colbert’s before and proved he wasn’t afraid to criticize President Trump even if it took a little liquid courage to get there.

Thursday’s debate is scheduled to air from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM ET. CBS should run local news after that before turning it over to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert around 11:30 for his live show.

It should be another interesting debate as 10 more Democrats get together to trade ideas and make the case on why they are the best choice to defeat Donald Trump in 2020. Stephen Colbert will have a lot to cover but he’s proven he’s not afraid of a little hard work when it comes to The Late Show.
