Trevor Noah shows us Trump smoking weed for the first time on The Tonight Show
By Matt Moore
The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah showed off his impression skills during a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Anytime there is a crossover event in late night television, it is worth watching for fans. Tuesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon didn’t disappoint as it welcomed the host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah.
It is an incredible time to be a fan of late night. There are so many options when it comes to shows and all are doing something different. Yes, there is overlap in the stories they cover but each host brings something unique in terms of sense of humor, skills, and delivery.
So when one host visits another, it is interesting to see the dynamic. Does the host cater to the guest’s style or does the guest play along with the established vibe of the show? Jimmy Fallon managed to find the best of both worlds while interviewing Trevor Noah.
Fans are well aware of Fallon’s fondness for games and especially ones that involve a level of improv and performance. That brought us to a game of “Wheel of Political Impressions” and game that Noah absolutely crushed.
Jimmy Fallon is the first name that comes to mind when considering late night hosts who do impressions. It is part of what made him a success on Saturday Night Live. And while other hosts slip into quick impressions, Fallon remains the only one doing full on sketches in character.
Trevor Noah showed that he belongs in that conversation, too. He nails the Barack Obama impression, found a clever way in to poking fun of Beto O’Rourke, and his Donald Trump is refreshingly different than others on television.
It is typically Fallon’s goal to make his guests look good. Maybe that’s why he was a little off during this game with a Bernie Sanders impression that didn’t go anywhere and a generic Vladimir Putin.
Then again, even if Fallon was on top of his game, Noah would have been hard to outshine. Fans of The Daily Show know all about Noah’s Trump impression and probably weren’t too surprised to see him dust off a few other voices.
