President Donald Trump kicked off his 2020 campaign and hit back against Fox News polls, getting the attention of Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.

President Donald Trump was in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday night to officially announce his 2020 reelection campaign. The event came after Fox News became the latest outlet to report that Trump is trailing Democratic candidates in most polls. The president’s denial of these polls and his rally were major talking points for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert  and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

President Trump has show that he really, really likes throwing himself a rally. It is an opportunity for him to speak uninterrupted for as long as he wants in an environment that he controls. The rallies are also populated by his more devoted supporters, ensuring that the optics will look good when he inevitably watches the coverage on television the next day.

These rallies have also become comedy goldmines for late night hosts. Whether it is mocking the bizarre things Trump says or the strange behavior he demonstrates, the rallies almost always end up leading off late night shows.

The rally in Orlando went as anyone would expect it to go. However, it appears as though President Trump doesn’t have the support in Florida he has had in the past. Even his old friend Fox News reported that Trump trailed Joe Biden, an announcement that did not sit well with the president.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live! had plenty to work with after the Trump rally and his outburst against Fox News. Both shows delivered entertaining monologues on the topics in their own unique styles.

Stephen Colbert seems to be happiest when he knows that President Trump is angry, embarrassed, or flustered. And those are three ways you could describe the president after Fox News released their poll data. Still, Colbert knows how easily the cable news network can get back on Trump’s good side and influence things at the White House.

Colbert also gives a special shout out to the Guzzlers. The band joins a list that includes 3 Doors Down and Jackie Evancho as artists that have performed at big time events for the president. After what Trump said about people in Orlando getting excited about guitars, you can imagine the wild scene outside the rally as the Guzzlers took the stage.

Jimmy Kimmel leaned in hard to the Florida angle of the rally. He has often used the absurd stories that come from Florida as well as stereotypes about the state for comedy. So the chance to do that while taking a jab at Trump supporters was too good to pass up for Kimmel:

The three women in the tent was a beautifully executed bit. It took just long enough to realize that the video was edited by Kimmel’s show and not actually footage from the Fox News report. By the time the audience knew what was going on, the actresses were in full-blown MAGA Florida mode.

Kimmel is also able to get in a little more political commentary but suggesting that the people outside Trump’s rally were getting more than hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. As Kimmel pointed out, the difference was that those in Orlando were “[Trump’s] people.” And we saw just what Kimmel thinks are examples of the president’s supporters.

The longer the campaign goes on, the more poll numbers will be released and the more rallies will be held. It will be exhausting at times but fans can take some relief in knowing that late night hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel will always be ready to find the humor in it all.
