Michelle Obama faces off against James Corden in celebrity dodgeball game
By Matt Moore
Michelle Obama will lead Team USA against James Corden and Team UK for a special episode of The Late Late Show.
James Corden is bringing The Late Late Show back to London for the third year in a row. The U.S. will still be well represented, however, thanks to an international dodge ball match featuring former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Corden’s London episodes have been highlights of his stint as host of The Late Late Show. Previous years featured “Carpool Karaoke” with Paul McCartney and “Crosswalk the Musical.” The shows also welcome some of the biggest names in entertainment to help Corden celebrate his homecoming.
This year’s edition will feature some friendly competition in honor of Corden’s real life home and his television home. A celebrity dodgeball game will air on the June 17 episode as Michelle Obama’s Team USA takes on James Corden’s Team UK. Here’s a breakdown of each team’s roster.
Team USA
- Michelle Obama
- Lena Waithe
- Kate Hudson
- Mila Kunis
- Melissa McCarthy
- Allison Janney
Team UK
- James Corden
- Harry Styles
- Benedict Cumberbatch
- John Bradley
- Reggie Watts
Reggie Watts has been given honorary British status as the Late Late Show band leader will be playing alongside Corden rather than for country. The team also features actor John Bradley, fresh off dodging White Walkers on Game of Thrones.
Michelle Obama leads the all-female American side. The former First Lady’s dedication to fitness has been well-documented so Corden and company could be in for some trouble when the two sides face off. It will interesting to see if the global respect for Obama extends to the dodgeball court or if Team UK chooses to go all out.
The dodgeball game airs on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday June 17. It will kick off a week of Corden’s London shows. The bar will be set pretty high for The Late Late Show after that but as we’ve seen, being back home brings out the best in Corden.
