Late night hosts Stephen Colbert and Conan O’Brien took their friendship to a new level on The Late Show.

It has been clear for a while now that the “late night wars” are a thing of the past. Hosts are much more friends than rivals, often appearing on each other’s shows. Stephen Colbert and Conan O’Brien proved that once again when they decided to share some personal space.

Colbert and O’Brien have already been spending a lot of time together. O’Brien was a guest of The Late Show back in February where he revealed that his DNA test results shocked his doctor. Colbert was then a guest on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast where the two concluded they must be long lost brothers.

But even a late night interview and hour long podcast weren’t enough for the pair of comedians. Colbert decided the best way to get to know O’Brien more was to get up close and personal with the Conan host. Here’s how that went:

Conan O’Brien has been in late night for 25 years. Chances are that he has seen, tried, or thought of just about every bit idea there is the format. The “Personal Space” box designed by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert certainly is weird. But O’Brien specializes in weird and was immediately right at home.

It’s good to see Colbert doing more bits like these. The start of his Late Show tenure featured recurring bits like the “Big Furry Hat” and “Big Questions with Even Bigger Stars.” Doing these type of segments adds a little more variety to Colbert’s show. Granted, he doesn’t exactly need to change things up as his performance in the ratings prove. Still, it keeps things fresh and allows for more moments like the entertaining awkwardness we see here with Conan O’Brien.

There may not be a better combination of late night hosts that Stephen Colbert and Conan O’Brien. They may have very different approaches to how they run their respective shows but that doesn’t mean they don’t have fantastic chemistry when sharing a space together.
