Game of Thrones spinoff trailer debuts on Jimmy Kimmel Live
By Matt Moore
Game of Thrones may be over but Jimmy Kimmel showed that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of a popular character.
Game of Thrones came to an end over the weekend after eight seasons. Most fans haven’t even had time to comprehend how the series ended but that hasn’t stopped speculation about prequels, sequels, and spinoffs.
Like most late night hosts, Jimmy Kimmel is a huge fan of Game of Thrones. His interviews with the cast were always some of the best on television. So it is not surprising that Kimmel is already looking for the next big thing set in the GoT universe.
It is safe to say that the tone of Game of Thrones won’t be recreated by whatever new show comes from the original series . The performances of the cast were outstanding as was the direction and cinematography starting all the way back in season one.
So perhaps an entirely new direction is needed for the next chapter. But with fans so devoted to their favorite characters, how can we be sure a spinoff will actually be successful? Jimmy Kimmel Live! may have come up with a solution that combines some fan favorite characters in a very different world.
A Game of Thrones sitcom doesn’t sound like such a bad idea, does it? After all, there were a few moments from the series finale that could have used a laugh track. And with a certain Fuller House actress in hot water, introducing a new character with a preexisting fanbase could be a win-win.
As ridiculous as the premise actually is, fans definitely wouldn’t complain about seeing more of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. His character Jaime Lannister was extremely popular and had one of the more interesting arcs in the entire series.
Putting him with Bob Saget and Dave Coullier doesn’t quite seem like the next logical step, but who knows. The entire cast of Game of Thrones will probably be offered all sorts of opportunities. Doing something completely different than a fantasy series may be what many GoT alumni will be looking to do.
We may have seen the last of Jaime Lannister but we definitely haven’t seen the last of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. There is a very good chance he’ll be back on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his next major project. Just don’t expect it to be Full House Lannister.
