Game of Thrones has a lot of fans in late night television and the hosts had a lot to say about the series finale.

If you are a Game of Thrones fan then chances are you had a lot of thoughts following Sunday night’s series finale. Late night hosts are no different and they were eager to share their reactions on Monday night.

The series finale may not have received unanimous praise. But there is still no denying the success and influence of Game of Thrones. There is a reason that the finale was the most watched event in HBO’s history.

So with a show that big and that much of a pop culture phenomenon, it’s no surprise that everyone from politicians to Saturday Night Live have weighed in. And late night hosts are no different, especially considering so many of them are avid fans of Game of Thrones.

While the rest of us reacted as soon as the final credits rolled, late night hosts had to wait until Monday night’s shows to share their thoughts and recap the finale. Here’s how some fan favorite late night hosts responded to the end of Game of Thrones and the end of an era.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Jimmy Kimmel is a pretty die-hard GoT fan. So it was unlikely that he was going to be too critical of the finale. He’s already done his best to help fans confused by the show’s various plot lines and plot twists.

Kimmel’s only complaints were the lack of nudity in the finale and the lack of maturity among any viewers who had to take Monday off of work. Only the fans who stayed up all night hunting for Easter eggs or posting their own theories probably needed to catch up on sleep.

Another mistake made its way into the finale. This time instead of a Starbucks coffee cup it was a plastic water bottle that was left in a scene. Of course Kimmel had to address it, landing a nice joke with an assist from the Kool-Aid Man.

But Kimmel’s message to fans, and more specifically nerds, is a good takeaway from the Thrones finale. It really is a good time to be a fan of “nerd culture” between Game of Thrones spinoffs, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and so much more.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert tried to predict the end of Game of Thrones with Kit Harington all the way back in March. So we knew that he would be tuned in to the finale come Sunday night.

Colbert steers clear of spoilers, however unlikely it is that a GoT fan didn’t watch on Sunday night. So instead he focuses on the tremendous backlash from some fans against show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. It is no secret that a number of fans were upset by the six episode final season and the rushed stories ahead of the finale.

But Colbert is not in that category. He mocks the absurdity of counselors offering assistance to grieving fans. Considering how much of a dedicated J.R.R. Tolkien fan Colbert is, it means a lot when he tells Game of Thrones fans to “grow the hell up.”

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon isn’t know for being critical. About anything. In fact, he is usually quite the opposite in how he praises every film, television series, musician and celebrity guest that stops by The Tonight Show. But it looks like the Game of Thrones finally broke his optimistic spirit.

Like a lot of fans, Fallon felt something was missing from the final episode. He didn’t get quite the emotional experience he hoped for despite strong acting performances from Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington and the rest of the cast.

Questlove seems to be in the same boat as Fallon. The Roots’ drummer seems to have the same reaction of a lot of fans. But maybe a second viewing will change his mind.

But things got back to more of The Tonight Show tone fans are used to seeing with the continuity gag. Just like Jimmy Kimmel, Fallon couldn’t let the water bottle go without making a joke.
