John Mulaney’s second time hosting Saturday Night Live was a hit so will the show look to build on that momentum this week?

Another week is drawing to a close. For millions of people, the week doesn’t end until the credits role on Saturday Night Live.

In its 44th season, Saturday Night Live remains as relevant as other due in no small part to the dedicated fans  tuning in each and every week. And when they do tune in, they’re seeing one of the more well-rounded casts in recent years producing original sketches and taking aim at the week’s headlines.

But tuning in every week hasn’t always meant getting a new episode for SNL fans. It has been pretty hit or miss this season when it comes to the show being on or off. A few unexpected vacations have kept audiences on their toes.

Last week we were treated to the return of John Mulaney as host. We got the highly anticipated cold open dedicated to Michael Cohen’s testimony. We also got to see the next installment of Mulaney’s diner musicals.

It hasn’t been a guarantee this season to get back-to-back episodes. Fans have been burned before.

But don’t worry, SNL fans, because there will be a brand new episode tonight. Idris Elba is the host and he’ll be joined by musical guest Khalid.

Elba has two films coming out in 2019. He’ll play the villain in Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw in August and then show off his musical talents in Cats in December. He also has a Netflix series Turn Up Charlie set to release on March 15. Elba was recently announced as the replacement for Will Smith as Deadshot in the Suicide Squad sequel.

It will be interesting to see what story Saturday Night Live focuses on for the cold open. Alec Baldwin is probably due to return as President Trump. The other big story of the week was the R. Kelly interview. Late night had some fun with the clip but SNL will have to be careful with how it addresses some of the more sensitive aspects of the story.
